Some houses carry more than just architecture – they hold history, emotion and memory. The renovation of this country villa is an example of how the spirit of a place can be preserved while adapting it to a modern context. Panoramic glazing has become a link between the past and the present, filling the house with light, air and space.
A house with history
Architect Oleg Kosheev, founder of OK-architecture, was tasked with adapting a classic English house to modern requirements while preserving its character. The historic brick walls remained untouched, while the interior layout was reimagined. "Why didn’t we demolish it? It’s simple—the house held memories and was important to its owners. The decision wasn’t easy, but I believe it was worth it," the architect shares.
A Borderless Space
The addition of Sky-Frame panoramic glazing has erased the boundaries between the interior and nature. The pool, enclosed in glass structures, has become part of the landscape, while sliding windows create a seamless transition from the pool to the terrace. "The contrast between old and new is a common technique in architecture. A large site required maximum openness, and panoramic windows proved to be the perfect solution," explains Oleg Kosheev.
Glazing that changes perception
A defining feature of the project was the HIRT glazing, which fully retracts into the floor. Initially, the architect considered more conventional solutions, but the client insisted on this option. “I was looking for the best way to create a space as open to the outdoors as possible, but it was the client who sent me a link to HIRT and said, ‘I want this. It has to be a wow factor!’” recalls Oleg Kosheev. As a result, the house preserved its past while gaining a new quality of life—spaciousness, light, and a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary design.
